There are two different stories that tell us why they paint the doors of the houses of bright colors. The first one says that when a drunken man entered his house and saw his wife with another man, he killed them both. But then he realized he had killed his neighbor, so he decided to paint the door of his house in a bright color not to get confused again. The second story tells us that when an English king died, the obligation was to paint the doors of the houses in black but, as Irish people hated that king and were happy because of his death, they painted their doors in bright colors to show that they didn’t want English kings to rule in Ireland.
